Transitions to High School...
We employ a number of practices throughout the year to assist children with their transition to High School the next year.
- We have 2 classes in Year 7 and students move between the 2 teachers to undertake their studies. Additionally, students have specialist teachers for Physical education, Music, Japanese, Library, and Computer Technology.
- Homework is based around assignments and uncompleted work from the current day.
- We work with Shailer Park State High School each year in providing students with visits to the high school campus.
- We have visits from Shailer Park SHS staff during the year, promoting the programs that they offer.
Graduating to High School...
You will need to enrol your children at the High School of your choice by the end of October.
I strongly recommend that you be proactive and:
- investigate what the various High Schools in our district offer and which, you feel will best meet the needs of your child. All of the State High Schools in our area offer an excellent academic curriculum but each can be differentiated by the particular focuses they have. Some focus on The Arts, some on sport. A large proprtion of our Year 7 cohort move on to Year 8 at Shailer Park State High School. The Principal is Mr John Milne. This High School offers some excellent academic programs around traditional studies, the Arts and Sport.
- consider any scholarships that may be on offer at your preferred school. Remember that some schools organise these scholarships as early as April or May so investigate early. You may like to strat considering Year 8 for your child when they are in Year 6.
- prepare a portfolio of you child (Academic records, school awards, extra-curricual involvements, community involvements, etc). Maintain it regularly. This will help at any interview your child attends.
When leaving, please remember to:
- Collect all of your childrens' belongings.
- Donate or sell your uniforms to other families or to the school.
- Keep in touch with us. Every student who attends Loganholme contributes to making our school so special
Our office will forward information to your child's state high school upon request from that state high school. This is a regular practice and assists the next school with class placements. This usually happens during Term 4 of each year. Please contact us if this is a concern for you.
Students with disabilities...
If your child has a recognised disability (and is serviced by our Special Education Program), we will contact you during Term 2 to begin discussions around an effective transition to high school and maybe the Special Education Unit at the High School.
